Icehawks News from the Nest - August 21, 2012
In this issue I’ll cover how to stay connected, more changes to the Northwestern Hockey Board, pre-season practices and the least pleasant topic of deadlines.
New Board Members
As I mentioned in the last issue, some additional positions were scheduled to be filled at the August meeting of the Board. Dave Zona takes on the role of Tournament Director. Bryan Davis takes on the role of CHC Representative and Joe Robinson takes on the newly-created role of Fund Raising Coordinator. We are fortunate that these individuals have volunteered for these roles and we welcome the energy that they bring. All of the Board contacts are listed in the “Contacts” tab of the web site.
Northwestern Hockey, like all CHC member clubs and thousands of sports clubs around the country, utilizes a web site from League Athletics. There are a number of ways to stay connected using the web site. First of all, you should have your email address appropriately entered on the web site so you can get game and practice notifications and other informative emails. You can update your own email address by visiting the Northwestern Hockey web site and clicking “Edit My Account” from the left menu tabs. If you don’t have a password, you can set one up.
If you’re a Facebook user, visit facebook.com/NorthwesternHockey
. Besides posting important announcements and reminders, we plan to allow appropriate postings by our Fans about game results throughout the season.
We’re also on Twitter @GetOnTheIce
with similar announcements posted.
Another way to stay connected is to attend a Board meeting or read the minutes. Board meetings are generally held on the first Sunday of each month depending on holidays and Board availability. The dates through the end of the year, along with the meeting locations, are posted in the master calendar on the web site. Information about the Board, including a link to meeting minutes, is located in the “Board Room” tab on the web site.
The schedule for pre-season practices at the Danbury Ice Arena has been posted to the web site. It covers practices through October 7. Once tryouts are over, mites and midgets will be practicing 1 day per week in the pre-season. Squirts, peewees and bantams will have 3 practices over the first 2 weeks after Labor Day to allow for roster finalization. Thereafter, there will be 1 practice per week in the pre-season.
For all travel players except for Midgets, Saturday September 22 will be the day for jersey distribution, roster signing (if necessary) and final payment. It will coincide with a practice at the Danbury Ice Arena. See the web site schedule for details.
Of course, I saved the best for last. We have multiple deadlines working at this point. Midgets need to have all of their paperwork in before they hit the ice for tryouts this Sunday. Mites need to have their paperwork in by August 31. The deadline for squirts, peewees and bantams passed on August 15, so their paperwork and second installment payment is due as soon as possible. Please check your email for the instructions sent previously for each registration process.
